Get a visit type

Preview· P9
GET
/visit-types/{visit_type}

Returns one visit type by its key, whether it's turned on or off. A key your organisation doesn't have returns not_found. A type open for pre-registration includes its public_form.

Scope: forms:read · Plan: Pro and Enterprise in live mode; every plan in test mode. Publishable keys: allowed for types that are turned on and open for pre-registration. Any other key returns not_found.

Authorization

Send Authorization: Bearer <token> on every request. The token is one of:

Admins create keys in Console → Developers → API keys and choose each key's scopes. A key is shown once. Never put a secret key in a URL, a browser or a mobile app.

Path Parameters

visit_type*string

The visit type's key.

Match^[a-z][a-z0-9_]{0,39}$
Example"meeting"
Example"contractor"
Example"parent_pickup"

Response Body

The visit type.

application/json
  1. response

A visit type, such as Meeting or Parent pickup. Admins add, rename and turn types off, and open them for pre-registration, in Console → Settings → Forms. Built-in types can be renamed or turned off, but not deleted. A visit type never includes its watchlist or badge rules, or your sites' check-in rules.

key*VisitType

A visit type's key. Every organisation has six built-in visit types, meeting, interview, delivery, contractor, event and other, and can add its own in the console, such as parent_pickup or vendor. Each type has its own visit form, badge and rules. A key is lowercase letters, digits and underscores, starts with a letter and is at most 40 characters. It never changes, even when the type is renamed, and it's the same in live and test mode. List your organisation's types with GET /visit-types.

A key your organisation doesn't have returns validation_failed, and so does a type that is turned off when you create a visit or change a visit's type.

Match^[a-z][a-z0-9_]{0,39}$
Example"meeting"
Example"contractor"
Example"parent_pickup"
name*string

The name people see on the kiosk, passes, badges and in the console. Admins can change it.

Lengthlength <= 60
Example"Parent pickup"
icon*string

The type's icon, shown beside its name wherever people choose a visit type: on the kiosk, the visitor pages, the apps and in the console. It is the key of one icon in Agoo's set for visit types, such as handshake, package or wrench, never an image. Admins pick it in Console → Settings → Forms. Built-in types start with their own icon, and a type you add starts with user until an admin picks one.

Today's keys are handshake, briefcase, package, wrench, calendar, sparkles, user, users, star, id_card, heart, home, backpack, graduation_cap, book, map, ticket, chat, hammer, spray, laptop, shield, clipboard_check, stethoscope, heart_pulse, shopping_bag, truck, bike, car, arrow_left_right, utensils, banknote, scale, landmark, hand_heart and mic. A key never changes or goes away, and new ones may be added, so draw user for a key you don't know.

Match^[a-z][a-z0-9_]{0,39}$
Example"handshake"
Example"backpack"
built_in*boolean

true for the six types every organisation starts with.

enabled*boolean

false when an admin has turned the type off. New visits can't use it, and creating one with it returns validation_failed. Existing visits keep their type.

pre_registration*boolean

true when an admin has opened the type for pre-registration. Visitors can then choose it on your pre-registration pages, in website embeds and in forms that use a publishable key. Off by default. A publishable key can only see, and create visits with, types that are turned on and have this set.

Defaultfalse
form_id*FormId

The type's visit form, which defines the custom_fields its visits accept (GET /forms/{form_id}).

Match^form_[0-7][0-9a-hjkmnp-tv-z]{25}$
Example"form_01kk1602m0errvasw8gkt8f90b"
public_form*|

The visitor-facing part of the type's visit form, for building a pre-registration form. null unless pre_registration is true.

host*

Who a visit of this type may be for. ask and offer say what a visitor may answer to "Who are you here to see?", so a form built with a publishable key knows whether to ask and what to send: host_id for one person, host_ids for several, team_id for a team, or none of them for no one in particular. A secret key or an OAuth app may address a visit to anyone, whatever the type offers visitors. With a publishable key, only ask and offer are returned. Admins set these in Console → Visitor types.

List visit types GET

Returns your organisation's visit types: the six built-in types, renamed or not, and the types your admins have added, such as "Parent pickup" or "Vendor". Built-in types come first, then the others by name. Use a type's `key` as `type` when you create a visit, and its `form_id` to read the questions that type asks. Types that are turned off (`enabled: false`) are included so you can still read older visits; leave them out with `enabled=true`. Types open for pre-registration (`pre_registration: true`) carry a `public_form`: the questions a visitor answers when they pre-register, without the fields your staff fill in. **Scope:** `forms:read` · **Plan:** Pro and Enterprise in live mode; every plan in test mode. **Publishable keys:** allowed. They see only the types that are turned on and open for pre-registration, so a pre-registration form can offer exactly those.

List forms GET

Returns your organisation's active forms, each with the JSON Schema for its custom fields. There is one visit form per visit type, including the types your organisation adds, and one person form. Read them to know which `custom_fields` keys and values a visit or person accepts. `GET /visit-types` lists the types. Forms include the fields your staff fill in, so publishable keys can't read them. A pre-registration form gets the visitor's questions from the type's `public_form` in `GET /visit-types` instead. **Scope:** `forms:read` · **Plan:** Pro and Enterprise in live mode; every plan in test mode.
